OHSAS 18001 is a certification standard for OHSMS(Occupational Health & Safety Management System). It was established and declared on April 1999.

OHSMS(Occupational Health & Safety Management System) is a management system that determines preventions and goal for employee's safety, maintenance and promotion of health for achieving this goals, after regulating organization, responsibility and procedure. This management system organizationally control through effective distribution of material and human resources.

It is remarkable that international certification bodies participated in the joint legislation by mutual agreement. It is stated that Occupational Health & Safety Management field is approaching selection as an international standard soon.
The basic concept of standard is based on guide standard of BS8800 England Occupational Health & Safety Management. Various certification standards of each body are unified.

Currently, K-OHSMS 18001 that is applying in Korea is Occupational Health & Safety Management system standard that is made by KAB for applying to domestic industry.

It is believed that ISO/TS 16949 will be replaced instead of QS 9000, also American automotive Big3 are strongly recommending the certification of ISO/TS 16949 as a global standard.

By meeting the requirements of OHSAS 18001, it can eliminate international trade barrier about safety and occupational health. So an entrance to the foreign marketplace can be easier. (Guarantee of free behavior from the international pressure group such as ILO etc)
